Roots and Shoots and Shoots and Blooms

Cora was a member of Roots and Shoots in the fall and the spring. Roots and Shoots are youth service club started by Jane Goodall in 1991 with the premise that each person can make a difference. Rachel Pethe was the group facilitator. The group time was structured like a class. Each semester the group did research, choose a project, raised money and accomplished their goals. The group also volunteered at a local nursing home; represented the group at local events; applied for and received a grant; provided filled goody bags for each foster child in the local group home and went camping. Cora also frequently helped the group of younger children with their projects.
